Damaged or cracked teeth are vulnerable to infection and
sensitivity, and can further break down under the pressure of a
bite without any support. A crown is an easy solution to
damaged teeth and is also usually placed after root canal
therapy.
A crown is a tooth-shaped cap that is custom-made to fit the
area of the damaged tooth. Once placed, the crown will protect
the tooth from further breaking and stabilize the bite, all while
providing a natural feel.
To begin the crown process, the damaged tooth is reshaped to
fit the new crown. Once reshaped, impressions are taken of the
area where the damaged tooth is in order to create the perfect,
custom fit for the patient’s tooth. The impressions are then sent
to a laboratory where the permanent crown is made. In the
meantime, the patient will receive a temporary crown that will enable them to continue with their daily activities until the
permanent crown arrives. The final step sees the temporary crown removed and the permanent crown cemented into
place.
Broken teeth can lead to very dangerous consequences if left untreated, not mentioning that they can ruin a perfect
smile. Don’t let broken or damaged teeth cause you problems, call 703-333-5105 and schedule an appointment today at
