Doctor Truong was born into a large family in Vietnam, she would be one of many people in her family going into the medical field. In 1991 she migrated to United States as a refugee. Despite the challenges facing her in a new country, Dr. Truong pursued an education at George Mason University, majoring in biology. Afterwards, she attended Boston University School of Dental Medicine in 1995 to 1999. In her first year, Dr. Truong became well-recognized among her professors and colleagues due to her cleverness in hand skills in aesthetic lab procedures; this allowed her to express leadership and guide her classmates through the lab. During her senior year at Boston University, Dr. Truong received a full tuition academic scholarship. She began as an associate in 1999, quickly gaining the trust and confidence of her colleagues and patients. In May 2004, she opened her first office in Alexandria, Shiny Dental. To ensure her practice is always modern and up to date, Dr. Truong attends continuing education courses yearly in areas such as Cosmetic dentistry, Orthodontics (Fastbraces/Invisalign) and, her favorite, Implantology. Dr. Truong is a family dentist, so she loves working with children and teaching them good oral habits with flossing and brushing. She makes sure to provide every child with brush, floss, and paste after every prophylaxis. Outside of the office, Dr. Truong enjoys gardening, traveling, cooking and going to the beach. She is married to Dr. Anh Bui who she met in the Vietnamese medical society in 1996. Together they have one wonderful child named Andy. Dr. Truong implemented the values she gained from having a family of her own into her work to ensure an authentic family dentist experience. She believes in treating patients with honesty and patience in the same way she would for her family, and that listening and being open-minded is the key to a successful outcome.
